Cadillac really aren't well known for their sports credentials. Traditionally they are associated with large luxury saloon cars but the XLR released in 2005 helps to change that. Offering a hard top convertible like the Mercedes SLK, the XLR comes in as a two door coupe with a 4.6 litre V8 engine allowing it to reach 62mph in 6.7 seconds. At its roots it is a Corvette but with a far stronger package to surround the engine. Test drives showed the car to be comfortable and on top of that fantastic in the corners, a real unexpected positive for an American car. However, the car let itself down with a rather plain interior, fuelling traditional European criticism that American's can't make a luxurious sports car.
However, not even they will be able to argue against the sheer power offered by the XLR-V. It is the supercharged version of the XLR, offering an additional 123 horsepower slimming the 0-62mph time down to 4.6 seconds! The interior has also had a redesign, bringing it up to date yet it still doesn't offer quite what you'd expect for its price.
