Bugatti became a subdivision of Volkswagen in the late 90s and one can
hardly be expected to have foreseen the Veyron to come out of this
marriage of German efficiency and French creativity. But the fact remains
that it did and the EB 16.4 Veyron was for a while the fasted road legal
car in the world now of course being outdone by the SSC Ultimate Aero TT.
The car has an amazing one thousand horsepower but there was some concern
amongst the motoring community when the car first came out that this
massive amount of power had come at the expense of actually making a good
car that could get around the corners and do well on a track. However,
road tests proved it to be sharp, and its massive weight and power were
not major hindrances at all. Moreover, it was phenomenal under breaking
and the UK show Top Gear even went to say that it was the best car ever
made.
What's coming next from Bugatti isn't certain, and after such a production
as the Veyron, a little time out is understandable. But this author hopes
that when they do re-emerge they do so with a slightly more affordable
vehicle!
